Effexor (venlafaxine) is an antidepressant drug; these are the group of selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SSNRI).

It is mainly used to treat the depression, anxiety, and panic disorder.

Information about Effexor:

It is not to be taken if the patients have glaucoma or if the patient may be treated methylene blue injection.

Dosage pattern of Effexor:

Initial dose:

It is about 75mg to be taken per day, administered in 2-3 divided doses with food, the dose may be increased up to 150mg per day if needed the dose should be further increased up to 225mg per day. More than the range of 225mg per day is not recommended

Women during pregnancy:

Neonates who are exposed to the Effexor can be hospitalized with developed complications when treating the pregnant women , the doctor should consider the potential risks and benefits of the treatment.

Patients with liver problems:
it is recommended that the total daily dose is reduced by 50% in patients with mild to moderate hepatic problems; individualization in the dose should b maintained in some patients.

Patients with renal problems:

It is about daily dose should be reduced to 25% in patients with  mild and moderate renal impairment.  Individual dosing should be maintained in the case of these renal impaired patients.

Effexor Overdose:

Seek emergency medical attention in case of overdose.
