Lipitor (atorvastatin) is grouped under the drugs called HMG coA reductase or statins. This drug works by reducing the level of low-density lipoprotein or LDL and triglycerides in the blood while increasing the good cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein) in the human body.

It commonly used for treating the high cholesterol and also used to lower the risk of heart complications in the people with type-2 Diabetes.

Information about the Lipitor:

This medicine should be used as exactly how the doctor has prescribed and it is must for the patient to follow the directions written on the prescription label. It should not be used in small or large doses and also not for longer duration than prescribed. This medicine should be taken for only 4-8 weeks and if any extension is required then consult your doctor.

Do not crush or chew the tablets or capsules. Do not swallow the tablets or capsules rather consume it with a full glass of water.

Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not be taken this drug, or if the patient is suffering from any liver diseases. In some rare cases, it can cause breakdown of skeleton muscle tissue. If any of the symptoms like fever, muscle pain, and a colored urine are experienced then immediate consult your doctor. It is recommended to avoid the foods that contain high fat.

Initial dose: The minimum dose is about 10-20mg to be taken orally once in a day.

Maintenance dose: This dosage is about 10-80mg to be taken orally once in a day.

Use: It is majorly used in the treatment of coronary heart disease and also usesd in the treatment of type2 diabetes.

For Hyperlipidemia:

Initial dose: The minimum dose is about 10-20 to be taken orally once in a day.

Maintenance dose: This dosage is about 10-80mg to be taken orally once in a day

For Hypertriglyceridemia:

Initial dose: The minimum dose is about 10-20mg to be taken orally once in a day.

Maintenance dose: This dosage is about 10-80mg to be taken orally once in a day.

Pediatric dose:

The dosage for the children depends upon their age and weight. Hence, it is must to follow the precauitons given on the prescription label or consult a doctor or pharmacist.

For Hypercholesterolemia:

10-17years: The minimum dose is about 10mg to be taken orally once in a day.

Maximum dose: This dosage is about 20mg to be taken orally once in a day.
