Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor; it can decrease the amount of acid produced in the stomach. It is mainly used to treat the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease and also Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It is used to the healing of erosive esophagitis.

Dosage pattern of Pantoprazole:

Adult dose

Erosive esophagitis:

The recommended dose is 20-40mg given once a day by intravenously, dose impairment is not needed with mild to moderate liver impairment.

Pediatric patient:

The dose is based on the body weight

Body weight is about: 55kg -10mg

Body weight is about: 55kgs or greater- 20mg

1month to less than 1 year of age : 0.5mg/kg

Duodenal ulcer:

It is about 20mg orally once a day before a meal,

Helicobacter pylori infection:

Dual therapy: It is about omeprazole 40mg to be taken orally once a day, clarithromycin 500mg orally 3 times a day

Triple therapy:  it is about 20mg and clarithromycin 500mg amoxicillin 1000mg all were given twice a day for 10days.

Gastric or duodenal ulcer:

in adults

It is about 80mg administered intravenously followed by the 30min infusion of 8mg/h for the total duration of 72hrs.

Zollinger- Ellison syndrome:

It is about 60mg to be taken orally once a day.

Pantoprazole overdose:

The overdose of Nexium is fatal, seek immediate medical emergency.
