Paroxetine is an antidepressant drug; these are the group of selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SSNRI).

It is mainly used to treat the depression, anxiety, obsessive –compulsive disorder and panic disorder. It is used along with the medication called olanzapine (Zyprexa) to treat bipolar disorder.

Information about Paroxetine:

It is not to be taken if the patients have glaucoma or if the patient may be treated methylene blue injection. It is not to be used if the patient had treated with MAO inhibitors like isocarboxazid, rasagiline.

Maximum dose should be about 80mg to be taken orally per day

Delayed release oral capsule:

Initial dose: it is about 25mg to be orally once a day

Maintenance dose: it is about 25-62mg to be taken orally once a day

Maximum dose: 62.5mg to be taken orally once a day

Use: acute and maintenance treatment of major depressive disorder

Anxiety:

Immediate release

Initial dose: 20mg to be taken orally once a day

Maintenance dose: it is about 20mg to be taken orally once a day

Maximum dose: 60mg to be taken orally once a day

Controlled-release tablets:

Initial dose: 12.5orally to be taken once a day

Maintenance

Obsessive-compulsive disorder:

Initial dose: it is about 20mg to be taken orally once a day. increase after several weeks in insufficient clinical effect observed

Maintenance dose: 20-60mg to be taken orally per day

Maximum dose should be about 80mg to be taken orally per day

Use: acute and maintenance treatment of obsessions and compulsions in a patient with that disease.

Panic disorder:

Initial dose: it is about 10mg to be taken orally once a day. increase after several weeks in insufficient clinical effect observed

Maintenance dose: 20-60mg to be taken orally per day

Maximum dose should be about 60mg to be taken orally per day

Use: acute treatment of panic disorder

Depression:

Immediate –release oral formulations:

8-18yrs: it is about 10mg to be taken orally once a day. Increase after several weeks in insufficient clinical effect observed up to 20mg once a day

Maintenance dose: it is about 20-60mg to be taken orally per day

Maximum dose: it is about 60mg to be taken orally per day
