Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor and this medicine works by decreasing the level of acid produced in the stomach. It is commonly used to treat the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease and also Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Even, it is used to heal the erosive esophagitis.

It helps to get an immediate relief from heartburn symptoms and condition.

Information about Pantoprazole:

It should be used exactly as how the doctor had been prescribed and it is must and should to follow the directions written on the prescription label. It is should not to be used in small or large doses and also not for longer duration than prescribed. This medicine is recommended only for 4-8 weeks of time course and is compulsorily should be consumed with a full glass of water.

Do not crush or chew the tablets, as it may not work properly or completely.

Dosage pattern of Pantoprazole:

Adult dose

Erosive esophagitis:

The recommended dose is 20-40mg given once a day by intravenously, dose impairment is not needed with mild to moderate liver impairment.

Pediatric patient:

The dosage depends upon the body weight

Body weight is about: 55kg then 10mg is recommended

Body weight is about: 55kgs or greater, then 20mg is recommended

1month to less than 1 year of age : 0.5mg/kg is recommended.

It is much better to consult your doctor before giving any kind of medicines to infants or children.

For Duodenal ulcer:

The minimum dosage is about 20mg orally once in a day before a meal.

For Helicobacter pylori infection:

Dual therapy: The minimum dose is about omeprazole 40mg to be taken orally once in a day,

clarithromycin 500mg is to be taken orally 3 times a day

Triple therapy: The minimum dose is about 20mg and clarithromycin 500mg amoxicillin 1000mg all were given twice a day for 10days.

For Gastric or duodenal ulcer:

For adults: The minimum doseĀ is about 80mg administered intravenously followed by the 30min infusion of 8mg/h for the total duration of 72hrs.

For Zollinger- Ellison syndrome:

The minimum dose is about 60mg to be taken orally once in a day.

Pantoprazole overdose:

The overdose of Nexium is fatal and it is cautioned that immediate consult to thee doctor is required whenever the following side effects are seen or experienced.
